Geranium Rozanne
From the Stargazer Perennials Farm and Nursery site I found this info from this wonderful flower. The picture was taken when I was experimenting with the RAW format. What a depth! How sharp! Pictute taken with a Nikon N90 at f/5.6, 1/640 s, ISO 400, 85 mm.
Rozanne flowers until late November, this picture was taken on a sunny day late October. The flowers still add a touch of colour to our garden, now late November.
Geranium Rozanne is one of our favorite hardy geraniums at Stargazer Perennials. At Stargazer Perennials we have found Geranium ‘Rozanne’ to be one of the best, most garden-worthy hardy Geraniums you can grow. Geranium ‘Rozanne’ sports large 2 ½” saucer-shaped violet-blue blooms with white centers that flower profusely from late spring through November, or until hard frost. Unlike many hardy Geraniums, Rosanne has excellent tolerance to heat. In addition, this hardy Geranium spreads nicely, but is never invasive. Geranium ‘Rozanne’ also offers superior fall foliage color as the soft green mounds turn reddish brown to firey orange as the temperature drops.
Geranium ‘Rozanne’s Origins
Geranium ‘Rozanne’ like many great garden plants came about through the keen observations of a pair of avid gardeners. We have the watchful observations of Donald and Rozanne Waterer to thank for Geranium ‘Rozanne’. The Waterers collected seed from two geraniums growing as neighbors in their perennial garden in Somerset, England. From the seedlings came careful selections until the resulting Geranium ‘Rozanne’ stood out as being exceptional, featuring stronger growth, larger flowers and softer leaves than the parent plants. The plant masters at Blooms of Bressingham first introduced Geranium 'Rozanne' to the public at the 2000 Chelsea Flower Show.
Geranium ‘Rozanne’ is a hybrid in the family Geraniaceae, the result of a cross between Geranium himalayense and Geranium wallichianum ‘Buxton’s Variety’. Members of this genus should not be confused with the common annual geranium of summer gardens, which are actually in the genus Pelargonium. Hardy geraniums or cranesbill geraniums, get their common name from the resemblance of their seed-pod shape to that of a crane’s bill or beak.
Geranium ‘Rozanne’ thrives in full sun to partial shade in moist, well-drained soil. This hardy geranium has exceptional heat tolerance and drought resistance. To maintain peak bloom and foliage appearance, simply shear back old foliage in the late summer to 3 inches. Geranium ‘Rozanne’ also exhibits excellent disease and pest resistance.
For a stunning showing, plant Geranium ‘Rozanne’ in masses at the front of the border where it will bloom non-stop all season long. Combine Geranium ‘Rozanne’ with Leucanthemum ‘Snowcap’ or Coreopsis 'Moonbeam' for a dynamic companion plant pairing. Rozanne’s energetic growth habit makes it ideal for patio containers, hanging baskets and window boxes.
